Soft tear drop lump on my lower jawbone?

Hello
I have lost a couple of stone recently, but only because I am eating healthy and wanted to lose the weight. I had a root canal filling about 3 weeks ago. I found a lump today on my lower jawbone, on the outside, right hand side, just below my ear. The lump starts on my jawbone, under the skin, you cannot see it, just feel it. It feels soft and stringy and moves when I poke it. It is a tear drop shape with widest part on my jawbone and it gets thinner as it goes up my cheek for about 1 inch. Would this be a tendon or muscle? Does not hurt, but I have made it tender poking it.

I have also been getting a mouth ulcer in the same place which appears for about 2-3 days on my tongue, bottom of it, near the tip. A small ulcer about 2-3mm across. It seems to appear in times of stress or emotion. I have it about 3-4 times a year. After a day or two it really hurts and I pop it( turns to a clear bubble) and then it vanishes for a few months. Had this now for just over a year. I did tell my dentist and he said it probably due to stress and just how I am etc.

Any advice on these two things would be great.
Thanks

Good Morning Rachels,
Cancers don't appear, stick around for a few days then go away: they appear ,stick around permanently and tend to develop.
The part of the neck you describe is near to the site of some fifty odd lymph glands which are subject to infections and swellings from time to time.
I can understand your concern and you are clearly worried about this so take the advice of David and Susan and see your doctor in the next day or so, the condition needs a professional opinion even if only to stop you worrying about it.

Hello
When my hubby got home last night I had a feel around his jaw area in the same place and he is plumper than me. I could feel the same kind of thing, lumpy, grisly stringy things there, but they felt not so defined. I think what I am feeling is gristle or muscles or tendons. Of course I could be wrong.Because I have lost weight I can feel mine more.I can only feel one of whatever it is there that is more defined than the others. I will keep an eye on it and tell dentist when I go in about one month for a check up. My hubby felt around his jaw and said his felt like that too and I was worrying about nothing. I have always been able to feel lymph nodes in my actual neck, for as long as I remember, say like 20 years ago. I will get it checked out though.
Thanks
Rachel.

It is best to get things checked and even go again if you are still worried in a month. You say you have been dieting. Well many of us here follow an odd diet because we have little choice and we fixate on the foods we can take easily. This means we lack certain nutrients.

Some oral problems I have been experiencing have been cleared up by a prescription dose of strong Vitamin B. However I was away and forgot them for a week. Some of the symptoms like cracked lip corner reappeared. Lack of vitamin B can cause swollen tongue etc., so check your dietary supplements too as the ulcers may come under this heading.

Hello Pauline
I go on holiday tomorrow so will get it checked when I get back. I do feel low and tired and think you maybe right about the vitamin thing. I started taking multi vits only 4 days ago. Ones which include iron, vit b. Hopefully that will help things. I do not eat cheese or milk or anything dairy, so I also take calcuim pills.
Thanks for your advice

I was just wondering if anyone can give me some helpful information. A couple of days ago I noticed a aching pain in what I would call my lower jawline in between my gums and my lower cheek. It only hurts when I touch it. And I cant find exactly where the pain is coming from...it seems to come from different places but always the same general area. When I rub on it I can feel kinda of a soft long lumpish thing that moves around a bit. Anyway I am a smoker and I am terrified that I have oral cancer. Does anyone have any advice for me... Im freaking out here!! Thank you

Hello coco

Your ache and the lump you feel may be unrelated; the lump is most probably not a cancer. The sensible thing is to see your dentist or doctor for a proper investigation and diagnosis which is not possible over the Internet. Let us know how you get on.

By the way, it is a good idea to give up smoking. It will be a significant step towards better health.

Best wishes
