Lumps & bumps in mouth

Hi,

I'm really hoping someone can help me as I'm very worried and any help would be great.

It all started about a month ago when I woke up one morning and found I had swollen gums and a swollen tongue. The gums went back to normal after about a week but I still have a swollen tongue that also has teeth marks (i think) at the edges.

Since the gums returned to normal I've had other symptoms appear. I seem to have a constant sore throat so I had a good look in my mouth and I found a white spot on the back edge of my tongue, I have also found about five 0.5cm raised perfectly shaped red spots at the very back of my throat and one above each tonsil. I also get a feeling of a lump in my throat at times or if I'm doing something and move my head quickly a sensation of something in the throat. Oh and the soreness of my throat seems to change from side to side each day.

I have an appointment to see my doctor on wednesday but am looking for some reassuring words before then.

P.S. I don't and never have smoked and dont drink either.

Thanks for reading.

Hello David

Keep the doctor's appointment and ask him/her about it. You might just have a throat infection but you need to have your throat examined, especially if it has been going on for more than 3 weeks. Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
Vinod Coffee

Thanks for the quick reply Dr.

I'm glad to hear that it could be something like a throat infection and doesn't have to be something more serious.

Like you say though I will keep my appointment and tell my Dr of all the problems I've been having, I'll let you know how I get on as well.

Thanks,

Dave.

Hey Dr Joshi just wondering if you could clear something up for me (or anyone else who knows) as I still have a couple of days before I get to see my doctor.

I've been searching the net and reading some other topics on this board and found that the spot and uncomfortable area on the back edge of my tongue sounds and looks like a lingual tonsil.

The thing is I've read in some places that if it was lingual tonsil then the tongue would be like it on both sides and in other places that it can affect only one side. So I don't know what to think, I only have it on one side.

Thanks for your time.

Dave.

It can occur (or be visible) only on one side.

Ok I've just got back from the doctor's, I told him of all my symptoms although I thought it best to not say I was worried that it could be cancer.

He looked at the white lump/spot on the side of my tongue and obviously everywhere else in my mouth and seemed pretty unworried. He said at this point the most likely cause is oral thrush which he has given me some sweets for (I know they aren't really sweets Smiler ). He also sent me for some blood tests to check my liver & kidney function and to test for anything like glandular fever. I've got to go back in twoo weeks time and if there no improvement I'll have to see a specialist of some kind (forgot what he said now, isn't that always the way).

So fingers crossed that in two weeks the treatment will of worked. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks,

Dave.
