I broke my palette

Last year I went to dentist for a lump in my mouth. It was large but went down in about 3 weeks so they said it was ok. I am thinking that the bump was caused by crunching on a lamb bone that went straight into my mouth and split the palette on the right hand side in two. I have had all sorts of problems since with neck pain, splinters, infections. I am scared of going to the doctors. Has anyone else had anything similar, broke the upper palette or similar symptoms. It is taking ages to heal properly. There is not much info on the internet.

Hi sim1502

I have never heard of anything like this, and I can't imagine how uncomfortable it must be. I presume that you have not gotten medical attention for your broken pallet since you're afraid to go to the doctor. Start with your dentist, and if he (or she) isn't able to help you, see an oral surgeon. Please let us know how this turns out.

Yikes! I think I'd start out with the ER and worry about the repercussons later.

Let us know how it goes.

Hello sim1502

I have never heard of a broken palate caused by someone crunching on bone. It is quite difficult to bite against the hard palate. The palatal tissue is sensitive (it hurts!) and normally stops one doing harm. Please see your dentist for a proper diagnosis. Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Thanks for your replies. Just to clarify what I think happened. I was eating something and all of a sudden i got a sharp pain. I could feel something lodged in my pallet but I forgot about it. It swelled up and then went down. I went to the doctors who said that it seemed ok. Thet were going to do a biopsy because it looked like a lump. When the swelling went down I did notice after a month or two something came out. However it feels like the right side of the pallet has split a centimetre near the end. I also feel something sharp like a splinter above the left pallet. This I think is causing aggravation. I dont like visiting doctors due to past experiences. So I would be quite happy if I knew it would heal on its own, and it is not something serious. From what I seem to notice is that cancer is normally a lump.
