Hello everybody-
I'm sorry i havn't been back yet - I have been waiting for some results. Based on the kind suggestions made I visited my dear Dr and put to him the various suggestions made. I now have a supply of Salagen or Pilocarpine hydrochloride which I have been taking for about two weeks now - in truth I have not noticed much change yet. I also have Diflucan/Fluconazol for the repeated thrush I am getting in the mouth. It may be that the salagen cannot help until the thrush is finally routed! Still losing weight despite daily doses of V8 juice, calory drinks (6) with egg and evaporated milk - for the fat content - plus blended brocolli and soup AND a can of guiness Oh yes and porridge with honey for breakfast. And I nearly black out when standing up! Seeing the specialist/surgeon on Monday and hope to take him to task. Due to all your kind contributions I now realise that we are all different and I am staggered at the variety of different symptoms experienced and the differing time scales. By the way, Mucous!! I find this one of the biggest curses of the condition - I must be the star buyer of tissues at our local supermarket.(Sorry to be crude) I would appreciate comments on this aspect. God bless you all - fight the good fight - John G. |

Hello John. Well, you seem to be on the same weary task of trying to put on weight as I am, and eating the s\me sort of things. I just stick at around 7 stone when I should be 9 and it is so frustrating. I was baby-sitting for my daughter tonight and she'd made me some blended chicken casserole and spinach. But I couldn't manage the chicken. I seemed to feel the grains in it.
I find the best bread-ish thing I can eat is/are muffins, originally recommended by Pauline. I make my own plain ones as I couldn't manage the berries in the blueberry ones. Thenh last week I tried the chocolate chip ones, ye Gods, and they are really fine. In fact I have just had one (3a.m.) after returning from daughter's along with a tin of broccoli and watercress soup. Blen ded of course. I went to a homeopathic doctor yesterday who had been recommended to me and she has given me some of her treatments to hopefully help the scar tissue, still badly scarred after five years. She also gave me something wehich should thin out the mucus. Like you it is a massive and horrible problem, especially first thing in the morning. I find inhaling steam from a thyme or menthol gentle mix is helpful last thing for gettimng rid of some of the phlegm as well. Buty honestly, I don't know if it is psychosomatic or not but after just one day my mucus has thinned out and my voice has been much better. Anyway I will stop rambling now. Please tell me how it goes. Regards Ishbel |

Hello John, It may take some time for the salagen to work esp with the trush. That alone is a mess to get rid of. I always managed to keep my weight up. Of course I was trying to eat a bite of something all the time. Mainly a lot of butter, foods cooked with it is what I mean. Like scrambled eggs. I would use butter in the pan then the eggs. I couldn't eat toast. I ate a lot of country gravy. I lived on ENSURE and BOOST for the vitamins. You must keep the vitamin levels up to help fight the disease. I only had thrush maybe a week. That was it. I was in the hospital when I got it. I wish you the best John, this is one HELL of a battle. But it ain't over yet!!!!!!!!!!!!Always, Vicki Lynn
