Hi
I have discoverd a very large lump on my top gum just above the tooth. It is rock hard and does not hurt at all. I have been to the doc, she sent me to the dentist, who took an x-ray but said it wasn't an abcess, it didn't look like a cyst and basically she didn't know what it was!!! The dentist is referring me to the maxifacial surgeon at the local hospital, I am petrified that it is something serious, as I am thinking the dentist must think it is something serious to refer me, do you think i am worrying unnecessarily. Thanks k. |

Hello Kimmy
Look in the article called Examination Technique with Normal Findings and Structures Mistaken for Disease at (Figs. 1.55 and 1.56) for gingival fibrous nodules or gingival nodules. A similar appearance caused by bone lumps above the upper anterior teeth are called exostoses. or just by the bumps caused by the roots of the teeth! They require no treatment. Don't worry so much Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. Yes, possible. Ask your dentist.
