Hi Dr Joshi A question for you regarding how often cancer recurs in the skin graph of a reconstructed tongue? I have been very naughty & not attended a Doc's appointment for some time..kinda havin a break from being a patient. I actually have one more op to go to reduce the size of my skin graph as it rubs on my teeth which created a skin tag. It now is in a few places (a couple of tags) but the back part where my cancer was seems a little hard and does hurt especially if I press it(i'm sure its scar tissue). I know that I probably sound like a fool for even asking you this seeing that I have now had cancer twice but I'm really just wanting to hear you say that it is definately scar tissue and just needs to be reduced. Also I have been having high back pain & wondered if this is ever a bad sign? I actually found a lump in my breast in November (just because I didn't have enough to deal with already!- I had not long finished RT) and after having a mammogram, scans & 5 core biopsies they decided that it was most likely a fibroadenoma but wanted me to have an operation to remove it..which i have not yet had. I was pretty thin then so the lump was very obvious but I have since gained a fair bit of weight & can no longer feel it(but do get pain on & off). So after all this, my question to you is do you think my back pain could be associated with any of this???? Thanks heaps Kelley | ||

Hi Kelley It is probably scar tissue at the junction of normal tongue and the skin graft but heck! it doesn't hurt to check it out with your Doc. Ask for a review appointment. High back pain is always a pain in the behind! So many causes, so do the usual things you would do to help it get better. If it does not get better, see your doc.
