Root canal gone bad...

Hi

I'm pretty nervous and I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm 20 yrs old, nonsmoker yada yada. About 2 years ago I had a root canal on a retained deciduous tooth (i don't have a replacement adult tooth), my left upper canine. Well, it seemed alright for a while, and I had no problems other than increased senstivity of the tooth until now. Today, I was feeling pressure on the tooth, so I looked in the mirror and noticed that the tooth was abcessed, when i touched it pus came through the gum through a little hole about the size of a pin. This was bad enough, but I also noticed for the first time that the gum tissue around this site looks like there's sand underneath it, sort of white bumps. None of this is painful but I suspect it's because the tooth was already dead from the root canal. I am concerned about the appearance of the gum tissue. I know it's not likely cancer, and I'm going to the dentist ASAP but I was hoping for some feedback if someone knows anything about this.

thanks!

Hi ginkgo123

Probably all related to the infection, not a cancer. You are seeing your dentist soon- so it will all be sorted out. If a re-RCT doesn't work, you will need to consider replacement (adhesive bridge, conventional cantilever bridge, implant, in order of cost). Succces of replacement wiil be improved by stopping any clenching habit.

Best wishes
