Hi Ruzbeh
The best suggestion I can offer is to read Sharifah's postings. She had a glossectomy some time ago, and her writing might give you a good idea of what to expect. Concerning your dad's being a talkative person and the possibility of a "sub total glossectomy": I've always been quite a talker, so my own diagnosis of tongue cancer was both surprising and traumatic. I had a hemiglossectomy and resection and speak as well now as I ever did. (Even before my operation, folks around me needed Julia/English-English/Julia subtitles.) Dr Joshi would be the best person to answer your more technical questions. Hoping for the best for you and your dad! Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos! |

Hello Ruzbeh
You will find Sharifah's blog, 'The Tongueless Talk' very informative. You dad will still be able to talk but different. He will most likely feed through a PEG but perhaps learn to swallow drinks.
