John, first of all I cannot believe this dentist, is he or she an idiot!!! This is something not to be taken lightly. You need to make you an appt. with a oral surgeon or a cancer doctor for a byopsy of this..or at least someone who can send you where you need to go..A dentist is usually the one you finds cancer in the mouth area but they don't just look at it and make a statement like that,,they take the proper steps first,,my Lord,,,promise me u will do something,,,you don't have to smoke or chew to get cancer,,,anyone can get it,,,I pray this is nothing and will just go away like you said the others have...but I would find out what they are and why you are getting them....Please do this for all of us that are fighting this horrible disease....Always, Vicki Lynn,,

Canker Sores are layperson terms for aphthous ulcers. Perhaps that is what the dentist meant! These ulcers normally resolve within 3 weeks. There is some good advice on managing them at the Mayo Clinic's website

Best wishes
