A Question About Fertility

Basically, i haven't had a period for about 6 months (since my last cycle of chemo).
The day before i was set to start chemo, i saw a fertility doctor about my "so-called" options regarding fertility.
I was told - egg harvesting isn't available on the NHS. & freezing an embryo isn't an option as i had to start chemo the following day. Banghead Thinking back, it seemed the disucussion about my fertility was just an after thought of the doctors. So nothing was done about it. Well, i had irregular periods right up to my last cycle. & then nothing since. I know it's probably the LAST thing my body wants to do right now - but someday i'd love to have kids! So i went otmy G.P. to see about whether there was a way to find out if i'd been made infertile from the chemo. The practise manager phoned me with my blood test results. My thyroid is npormal, and my follicular cycle (the cycle before you ovulate) is showing signs of being normal - WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? *lol* The practise manager couldn't tell me! Roll Eyes
Is there a way i could be tested to get a definitive answer? & if my cycle is "showing signs of being normal" then why haven't my periods returned yet?
Thinking
Thanks,
Michelle

Chelle,
My periods returned two months ago.My last one was in June (the day of my surgery! great!) I did have a menopause test in Feb and they were very surprised that I was still fertile after the treatment and my age (48). I am not sure whether you would have had the same test (FSH)follicle stimulating hormone. I think probably you would. All I can say is that losing weight, not eating properly, surgery puts a great strain on your body and it better things to do than provide hormones for babies!
Given time your body will get back to normal and be ready for that lovely pregnancy that you are waiting for.
Have another test and chat to the practice nurse

Thanks Anne!
Just me being impatient again and expecting too much too soon!
My last perid was actually during my final chemo cycle. Like you said the weight loss doesn't help, i was 6 stone 10lb! & i'm sure bodies more focussed on repairing the damaged tissue and trying to build up my muscle i lost!
& if it comes to it i can still carry a bab, i'd just need a donor egg.

Glad to hear the driving instructing's goin well!
Cheers again,
Michelle
