Question:
Went to see doctor recently and he has given anti-biotics. Had trachial bronchitis 3 yrs ago with blood and ever since have had continual sore throat and cough - which never seems to go away by the time the next one comes. 6 weks ago I lost my voice for 3 days completely and then took another week to recover, then sore throat. It was then I noticed a small red lump behind the lining, in front of the tonsile-belive it to be the fauceal pillars? Not painful, but wasnt there before and not gone away. About the size of a petite pois, hard, not white. Doctor couldnt see it. Since last yr have felt throat restricted and more difficult swallowing, sometimes choking on my own saliva. Pain in right chest since bronchitis, but doctors could never hear anything. Am 34, smoked heavily on and off and contant passive smoker as a child. Am I right to be concerned or not. What should I do?

Hello Mary

(1) The smoking doesn't help the sore throat, so you will need to lay off the cigarettes. There are several options to help you with this ranging from Nicotine Replacement Therapy to Smokeless Tobacco. Your doctor can help.

(2) If you can feel or see something on the fauceal pillar but your doctor can't, ask for a second opinion (referral to the the local ENT dept).

(3) if you are getting pain in the chest, ask to see a chest physician, but remember you need to also take responsibility for your own health by stopping smoking.

Let us know how you get on. we are here.

Best wishes
