Mouth/Throat Problems...

Hello everyone, my name is Dave and I am new here and would first like to say hello to everyone and let everyone know that I have read through the forums and everyone is so helpful and supportive of one another which is great!!!

I have had an ongoing problem with my mouth/throat for the past 3-4 months. I have been a user of chewing tobacco for the last 4 years and have been trying very hard to quit over the last few months and I think one of these days I will finally throw in my last chew. I have been extremey worried about a little white spot in the back of my throat (looks like a pimple) that has been there for about a month now and has not gone away. Along with the white spot in the throat, I have had a cough for the last 2 months and my mouth has been really dry with a white tongue. My jaws have been hurting me and I have also noticed a small bump on the roof of my mouth towards the left side. It is not big at all but it has been there a little while. Also, the roof of my mouth towards the back has been burning every once in a while, and until I started taking my Acid Reflux medicine, it only comes and goes every few days. Sometimes I wake up with a sore throat that doesnt last very long, maybe an hour or so after I wake up. The back of my mouth has been red for some time now and I always feel as if I have cotton mouth and my lips feel like they swell a little bit.

I have been to an ENT and the dentist, who both say everything looks alright, although the ENT has labeled the throat problems as symptoms of Acid Reflux (but the white spot was not there when I saw him). I am very worried about this white little "pimple" in the back of my throat and wondered if it is normal to have one of these. Also, the white tongue? what is this?
Could these all be symptoms of Acid Reflux or is it something else? Thank you, Dave

Hi Dave,
The white tongue may be oral thrush and you're GP could diagnose this. Usual treatment is something like Nystatin, but i find those pro-biotic drinks kep it ar bay for me. It's an imbalance of the good and bad bacteria.
I'd expect your jaw would ache if you chew. Any kind of repetetitive movement will have an effect on joints and muscles.
Perhaps you should go back and see someone about the 'pimple'.
& i'd definately give it your best shot at giving up the the dipping habit... As you know... it really isn't good for you & as far as cancer is concerned preventuon is better than cure!
All the best,
Michelle
