bump in middle of hard palateGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I noticed recently a bump in the middle of my hard palate, its a bit paler than the rest of my palate, very hard and right in the center. It seems like it extends through my entire hard palate, but it seems slighty larger at the beginning of the hard palate, after the soft palate. There's no pain or bleeding or anything, when I look at it from a certain angle it seems white, but with a flashflight it looks pink. It could just be that the lighting here is terrible. I went to the doctor recently for a consistent sore throat, he said it was fine I just have sinuses, allergies, etc. I also had him look at the roof of my mouth and he said it was fine it just looks a little red. I'm confused now. Is this normal or should I get a second opinion? I'm an 18 year old female, I smoke, but not a whole lot, I've been trying to quit and I haven't been smoking very long (only since the start of college, actually). I smoked in high school, but very little. I'm really worried about this, I don't know if it's normal and I don't have the means to get to a physician until break, as I have tons of work to do and I'm out of state.

Hello Brit There is a bump of extra bone called a torus that is normally present in the midline of the hard palate, it may be minimal or very enlarged. For more information and pictures of normal appearances, please see Fig. 1.24 and Fig. 1.25 in this article called Examination Technique with Normal Findings and Structures Mistaken for Disease.
