Hello bunnytu

It is most likely that you had an infection (abscess) from the tooth that caused the swelling after a bout of acte pulpitis (toothache -beating pain) that resolved with a residual lump under the tooth over the root. I suggest that you see your dentist to have it investigated and treated apropriately (either root canal treatment if the tooth is restorable or extraction if not). Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Hi Bunnytu

I totally understand being afraid of the dentist, lots of people are (I'm a poster child for it!). Yes, it's easy to imagine worst-case-scenarios, especially when it's in your mouth, but you really should go to the dentist as soon as you can. Doing nothing is clearly not working for you.

Dental treatments and pain management really have improved over the years, and dentists are much more aware of and sensitive to the issues that their patients have. Skipping out before the doctor sees you is bad plan because when you finally screw up the courage to go, you could have a lot of trouble finding a dentist who is willing to take you as a patient.

PLEASE go to the dentist--in the long run, you'll really be glad you did.

Julia
