I have had some pain in my throat on the left side along with occasionla ear ache for almost 3 months now, after what getting the flu in the last week of november. Also some minor discomfort when swallowing. I have had a swollen lymph node on the left side for about the same amount of time as well. I have taken antibiotics twice without resolution of symptoms. I have been to an ENT twice so far and he used a fiberoptic scope and he said that he doesnt see anything other than my lingual tonsil is enlarged. He said that he wasn't worried about my lymph node (if thats what it is)as it was small and mobile. He sent me for a CT scan but the nurse couldn't get the contrast in, however the ct came back normal. He prescribed nexium but so far no luck. I can see that my lingual tonsil is somewhat enlarged but the left side seems somewhat larger. On occasion the right side has started to feel slight discomfort as of late, but not very often.
Thank you for your time!

Forgot to mention, I am 34 and I have smoked 1 pack of smokes a day for 18 or 19 years.
Also I had my tonsils removed at about the age of 27 or so.

Hi Ronnie

You are best getting a second opinion from another ENT specialist if you still feel unwell. If you haven't yet stopped smoking, you are best doing so now.

Best wishes

Thank you so much for your reply. You are very kind to donate your time here....
The ENT I have been seeing has scheduled me for a biopsy on the 17th so I am very happy about that as I will get an answer I feel. He said that he still doesn't see much at all (althoughhe is going to biopsy the area that I am concerned about) and that normally for me to have pain I would have a large tumor if it were cancer. Has that been your experience most of the time as well?
Thanks again for your time and knowledge.

I think that most likely I have cancer, still hoping for a good pathology report but given my symptoms I don't see much hope for it to be anything else.. Frowner
Sometime I'm okay with that but other times I'm pretty depressed.

Hello Ronnie, How are you this fine day? Welcome to our site. The site that we all wish we never heard of, LOL, but Thank our LORD that we have. We need a place to vent all our fears and thoughts to. What part of Oklahoma are you from. That is my home as well. I used to live in LAWTON. My family still do. I will look to your reply. Always Vicki Lynn

B.t.w. Yours is one of the first stories I read about oral or head and neck cancer when I first started to suspicion that I might have it. I really appreciate the effort and time you put in to try and help other who are going down this very dark and frightening road. I hope you are doing good.

Ronnie, Yes I did post on there. However there are so so many on that site that one tends to get lost in all the posts. The "old timers" on there seem to run the ship so to speak. I just never felt like I was heard on that site. Which is a shame because all I wanted was some help. Some answers to some questions that were very concerning to my health. I never really got anywhere on that site, I pray that you have done better with it. Tho I do go back time to time just to read up. I don't post tho. Yes I know exactly where Purcell is.. I live south of there. I live almost on the Texas border. In a town called Lawton. Only 45 minutes from Whicita Falls, Texas. I KNOW you have heard of that town. Everyone has. LOL. I Thank you for what you wrote. I hope that I was able to help you in some fashion. We all have to stick together and work together to try to handle this illness that we have., Or at least that is how I feel about it....Always Vicki Lynn
