Swollen Lymph Node
 Login/Join
Posted
Following on from Ronnie's previous postings:
I have had a biopsy and should get the results back Friday. If the results are good, then I am curious as to chances of having a clear biopsy report but still have cancer. The ENT biopsied the base of my tongue, and a remnant of a tonsil left from a prior tonsilectomy.
I would still be worried however as I still have a swollen lymph node that has been there since I had a bad flu in October.
Thank you if you are comfortale answering this!

Hi Ronnie

You need to await the result of the biopsy. If it is clear, the chances are that the lymph node swelling is an inflammatory reaction, not a cancer metastasis(spread). Even so, your doctor might wish to remove it to be sure, so that all can sleep easy!

Best wishes

Biopsy came back. Nurse said it was chronic inflamation. Is this the same as reactive hyperplasia?
Anyhow this is good news. Still hoping to get a diagnosis however. If I didn't have that darn lymph node I'd totally forget about it now.
I will see the ENT again on Friday and ask him what he thinks about the lymph node, I think he will most likely take a wait and see approach but I am more of a fna and wait or a biopsy now kinda guy,do you think I'm to paraniod?
Thanks!

Hi Ronnie

That's good news. Reactive hyperplasia is caused by chonic irritation. ASk your ENT about the lymph node and options for treatment and merits/demerits.

I will be going in on the 25th to get my lymph node removed. The surgeon said that from the feel of it he thought the chances of it being cancer were remote but he still wants to get it out to be sure. I am glad to get it removed so I can know for sure as well, lol. I just wish I knew what IS wrong at this point.I've been worried for 6 months now and its getting old lol. The last ent said he thought maybe it was lingual tonsilitis, but he still wasnt sure.

I guess I have to much time on my hands, just wondering if maybe anyone might know what could possibly be wrong If I dont have cancer? The last ent said he thought it might be lingual tonsilitis, could it be related to the tooth infection I had over a year ago? . thanks.

Just got home, still kinda groggy, anyway the surgeon said that it was bigger than he thought and that there were three nodes stuck together so he took as much of one as he could and that we should have some answers as to what is going on. He said he didn't think it was cancer, but of course I know I need to wait for the pathology report. I should have the results back in about a week. Lymph nodes stuck together though makes me wonder but...

Hi Ronnie,
Get plenty of rest! We just got the results of my husbands Nodes, the surgeon said his nodes looked good when he removed them, and his result came back (2.5 weeks later) negative, so while you are waiting for your results we wish you all the very very best Smiler

Hi Ronnie

Waiting for the biopsy results is always difficult. The bright side is that the lymph node's been removed and you will get the right treatment soonest now whatever it needs to be. The days will pass.

Best wishes
