Following on from wondering if what mum has in her mouth she does indeed have mouth cancer and now she has been told it's in her lungs also. I am wondering what the next step will be as she is in dreadful pain she says she is banging her back on the wall to stop it. She has not been given any thing for the pain..I think what I am trying to say is what can they do to make her more comfortable she has already said she is to old and frail for treatment so at this stage we as her family would be looking at a better quality of life. She has a appointment on the 5th of sept for blood counts, who will decide what to do with her and what to give her? She went to the maxifilio unit today will it be that department or her GP..we just dont know what will happen next..thank you for listening..Phe

Hello Phe I'm so sorry to learn that your beloved mum does have mouth cancer and that it is also in her lungs. She shouldn't be allowed to suffer so much pain, I'm surprised that her GP or the hospital doctors haven't suggested she take morphine (or at least some other strong painkiller) Is she on medication for anything else - heart trouble or diabetes etc? I'm trying to think of a reason why they wouldn't prescribe for her. As I understand it her GP would be the one to prescribe initially. Once she has seen a consultant at the hospital then he/she might write to her GP and suggest a different drug. But at no time should she be allowed put up with all that pain. This being a bank holiday weekend will mean you can't see her doctor until Tuesday at the earliest but there will be an emergency number to ring if you are worried. I know that dreadful pain only too well (as most of us on this site will also) and for someone of your mum's age having to put up with it - doesn't bear thinking about. I hope you get some relief for your mum very soon. Best wishes Brenda x
