I have just had laser treatment for sublingual keratosis. After a biopsy my consultant told ne that it was severely dysplastic & was at an early stage of squamous cell carcinoma.I'm worried that it may have come through HPV & oral sex. I stopped smoking & drinking 22 years ago. I'm not sure what to do - tell my girlfriend but would she be able to do anything for herself about it. Is HPV treatable? Some friends say not to go down the road of telling, alarming & blaming her. What should I do ?

Hello Neargrove

Glad to hear your cancer was detected and treated early. Smiler

HPV is thought to cause only about 15% of oral cancers. Besides the known risks caused by alcohol and smoking, there could be other yet unspecified risk factors. You don't know for sure if your cancer was caused by HPV Confused ; most people with the virus do not get cancer of any type. While HPV infection is something that all sexually active Razzer men and women should know about, the vast majority of people infected by the virus are not affected.

Do not blame yourself or your girlfriend! :banghead:
Instead, tell her about your concern for her. Wink
Do not let your suspicions interfere with your relationship. Cool

There is much information on the HPV section in the RDOC website. You could always try imiquimod if you suspect a HPV infection. Speak to your consultant about your fears.

Best wishes

Vinod :coffee:
