Bit about myself:
Well Im a 19 year old student thats currently studying in Australia. I smoked for 4 years and have been smoke free for the past 2 years. I also had top and bottom braces for 3 years and had them removed in 2000. Symptoms: I have around 9 or more lumps in my lower and upper lips. Each lump is not visible and is only detectable by touch. They feel like their actually in the lip fat they range in size from a pin head to a very small pee. They feel quite hard and I have had these since I had braces, might have been before but I cant remember. On occasions they are sore, but its normally when I play with them a bit too much so I assume this is of my doing. I have also noticed a lump under my chin around the size of a small Pee. It has been there around the past 8 months (well since I noticed it). It is under the front left of the chin and has not given me any discomfort - but thought I should mention it anyway. Diagnosis: I have brought these lumps up with my normal GP a few times in passing. He has examined them around 2-3 times in the past 5 years and he thinks they are just scares from when I had braces. Although I dont know why but the last few weeks they have been playing on my mind. The more I think about them the more I play with them with my tongue and the more agitated them seem to get. So its a rather vicious cycle that I'm trying to end. |

Hello AussieBloke
It is a great thing that you have stopped smoking It is most probable that the lumps you are feeling are innocous; they tend to get discoverd as you start examining yourself. They are usually minor salivary glands in the lip, Fordyce granules or oral mucosal scars (subepithelial fibrosis). The nodule/lump under your chin just be could be fibrous or fat tissue; it is best to ask your doctor about it and also your dentist as sometimes a lower front tooth infection from a nonvital tooth can present under the chin. Hope that helps. Best wishes Vinod :coffee: Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice.
