Hi guys, this forum is great and already making me feel a bit better.
I belive my problem merely lies in my mind more than my mouth but I can't stop my worrying. I just recently found some lumps in my bottom lip, they are not noticable in any other way than squeezing it with my fingers or my tongue and top lip. They feel inside my lip and mostly are on the left and right sides of my bottom lip. They feel like the lumps when you cut or bite into your lip( I know from a skateboarding accident I turned 20 in June and am dark skinned(half mexican, with black hair), I don't smoke, I don't chew, and I don't drink. But even after considering all this I still can't keep it from bothering me. I also have had swollen lymph nodes in my neck and behind my right ear for years now - I was told they were scarred lymphnodes(yet I still let them worry me..) and would probably not go down. I have also had a mouth sore on my gums that hasn't healed in also probably years. It often pops (usually caused by me poking around) but my dental hygeine was BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD leading upto when it started. I have tried to fix that though... I hate bad breath. I haven't talked to anyone about that yet, though. Anyways the reason I am posting is because I am wondering what this can be in the case that it isn't something to worry about? I will be bringing this upto my doctor soon (within a week or two) but I still need something to ease my mind a bit... this worrying keeps me up at night. Thanks for the response in advance! |

Hello Tekk
The lumps in the lip could be minor salivary glands or Fordyce granules. Ask your doctor to have a look and also ask about your enlarged glands. See your dentist about your mouth ulcer and oral health. Hope that helps. Tekk, Thank the LORD that you are going to have this checked out, I am curious as well. I have never heard of this. Please come back and let us all know how it turned out for you. You see when people do come back and let us know, you have no idea how many people you are helping that may have the same thing that you have but are terrified to ask.. Plus we really do care about people and their lives. We wouldn't be on here if we didn't. So we will here from you, right. Or if you just want to talk, it doesn't always have to be a question about cancer. Here we can talk about everything. We will be thinking of you and wishing and praying for the very best for you...Always, Vicki Lynn

Hey Vicki, thanks for the kind words.
I goto the doctor in two days.. but Dr. Vinod's reponse about 'minor salivary glands' sounds exactly like what is bothering my lip. I recently had been chewing bits and peices of dry skin off my lip(sometimes even causing bleeding) due to it being real dry lately. I am still going to bring it upto the doctor though. But now I am wondering how common a non-healing mouth sore that is non-cancerouse is? It's starting to worry me now that I have read some stuff. I would feel so angry to know my avoidance of smoking/drinking meant nothing while my friends still smoke/drink away. :ashamed: It's a red bump that slowly builds up after a day or two and pops - it's usually puss but sometimes can have some blood. Like I said it started during a time of bad dental hygeine and I have had tons of dental work from cavitys. I wish I was still under 18 getting insurance from the state. :banghead: btw, my mom keeps mentioning that it's an abcess tooth most likely, and I don't really know much about that .. I do know the sore is right on the gums close to where the root of my tooth would be. Any ideas? |

Hello Oregon! Well I would think that some external stuff would help too. Use plenty of Vaseline lip salve and carry it in your pocket. That will take care of the dry l;ips outside. But if your saliva glands are playing up you are probably licking your mouth a lot--I do. (I lick mine I mean!)
This causes dryness so yuo lick more and then it gets sore and dry. For this a spray whenever youneed it of artificial saliva called Glandosane is very good. That's the trade name in the UK. You will be able to track it down I'm sure. It is excellent and means that your mouth is moist and you don 't get the dry lip problem so much. As for your friends smoking and drinking while you don't.... So what!! Regards Ishbel |

Hey Ishebl, ya I lick my mouth alot... esspecially now that I found those little bothersome things. :banghead:
Thanks for the reccomendation of some sprays and such, I'll look into it next summer but for now the hot weather is retreating and my lips haven't been dry in awhile. As for my friends drinking/smoking... I don't care, I never want to do either, NEVER. :alert: It's just that I am often trying to help my friend stop smoking so he doesn't get things that I, now, could possibly have. I just hope I worry too much... :boxedin: |

Hi all, me again.
I went to the doctor today and unleashed all my symptoms and worries on him. Let me start by saying I am much happier. I showed him the bumps in my lip and was told exactly what Vinod had said. They were salivary glands and often noticable when you start exploring your mouth. He said sometimes they can even get pretty big if/when they get mucus in them. I talked to him about the lymphnodes and swollen stuff and he told me it all felt normal. He said to worry only when you find lymphs swollen underneath your collar bone (in which I had none) and if lymphs become big enough to where it's not like you actually have to explore and find them due to your obsession with finding things wrong with you.. like I have. Also I have had the same swollen lymphs for years now with no change in size or hardness, a very good thing indeed ! I was told the lymph behind my ear is often a cause of acne remaining into your adult years and that it felt like a gland as opposed to a lymphnode. I also remembered the time it started showing up was when I got a pimple behind my ear. :banghead: I feel much better now and I also have a dentist appointment to get the sore in my mouth looked at. I would say that if you have ANY questions like I had don't just take my advice and shrug it off. If you ended up here, like me, you probably worry alot and going to the doctor will help you ALOT even if it's just mental help. You need to see your doctor and show him what's up. Thanks for the responses all. |
