Lump inside mouth (ahh yes, the LUMP question-sorry)

I went to my dentist 6-7 months ago. Back then, a week before going to the doctor, I had a pimple type growth inside my mouth. It just appeared suddenly one day. It was filled with puss because after pushing it w/ my tongue, it just popped.

Within 2 days from then, a lump began to form. Dentist said it was probably salivary gland (I think, since it was 6-7 months ago). After all this time, its still here. Size didn't really grow.

More about the lump:

-About 1/2 mm size.
-It's a little hard.
-I can feel it w/ my tongue
-Located right side of my mouth, about 1/2 inch below the lower lip.
-I can feel it w/ my tongue and when I push with it, it feels larger.
-NO pain at all
-It moves around if I use my fingers to feel it. Feels like its a small ball inside, between outder and inner skin.
- No colors. Skin is the same inside mouth skin, all around.

I looked at mucocele but not sure if that's what it is.

Any suggessions? Yes, I know can't make actual diagnose through online forum but not sure if the symptoms will give away something?

BTW, I do have a dental appt on October 9th. Thank you

Hello MohaimenK

Mucoceles don't fill with pus. They don't always pop but will then grow larger slowly. They are not hard and take on a bluish tinge owing to transluceny from the saliva under the thinned mucosal covering. So, I don't know what it is.

I suggest that you see your dentist for an opinion again and if he can't give a definite diagnosis, ask for a referral to a specialist for diagnosis and investigation.

Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Thanks Dr Joshi. I swear, the dentist came in, played w/ it for a min and said "oh thats nothing to worry about". Is there another word, that sounds close to Salivary? I swear I was reading that in like 20 different threads last night. Should have written it down.

As for when it had puss, its VERY weird because it started and formed with in like a few mins. I could feel it growing inside and then it became hard w/ puss.

But was able to pop it out w/ my tongue and then the hard "bump" formed. Been there since March and hasn't grown. Not like ulcer or anything like that. Not an open wound.

Another thing I am thinking is that I bit there because I often bite inside my mouth while chewing and there's been ALOT of times where I got bruised w/ my teeth and cuts. So I'm wondering if that's what caused it. So I don't think its cancerous from what I've read in this forum. Except for the part where it doesn't hurt at all.

Dr. Joshi, found the term you used in one of the older threads. "Sebaceous gland". What is this?? That's what the dentist told me (I am 95% sure).

I suggest: Fordyce granule (sebaceous gland) with the yellow 'pus' being the sebum.

Let us know what your dentist says.

Hope, this question doesn't scare everyone but i have to urgently share it to all. I have a something like a lump/ small blister, one of which is inside the lower lips that touches my teeth. I have been disturbed by this for a couple of days. I am looking forward for any valuable suggestions.

Thanks.

Hello Mang

Please see your doctor or dentist for an opinion and diagnosis. It could be anything. Most things improve /heal within 2-3 weeks but mouth cancers (and some other things) don't.

Let us know how you get on.
