Hi there
I haven't contacted you for a while but need some advice.
My cancer was "cured" 3 and a half years ago (tongue/throat etc) and all appears to be well. I had 35 radiotherapy sessions c/w chemo.
I recently had a routine MRI as part of my 4 monthly ckeck up and have received this morning (Saturday so I can't ring the ENT people until Monday) a report which I don't understand.
It says that there is evidence of residual recurring neoplasia within the base of tongue or left side of neck.
Can you please help me with some understanding of what this is as it is worrying me.
As I said I feel perfectly fit and well, eating ok etc.
Rgds Phil Challenger

Hello Phil

I am surprised that a report was sent directly to you. It would be worrying to read something like that! But I would not read too much into that as scarring in the area can cause changes that can be mistaken as 'evidence'. You should call up your ENT specialist on Monday and ask for an appointment to have it explained.

Do let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

many thanks, I am a bit bemused myself as to why they sent this to me. I am going to ring IOM ENT on monday and I am in Liverpool on Wed for my 4 monthly check. They will have the CD and can hopefully clarify the situation.
Once again many thanks for your prompt response'

Hi there Happy New Year
At long last the situation has been resolved. Firstly I shouldn't have been sent for a "routine MRI", secondly the results shouldn't have bneen sent to me and finally the diagnosis was inaccurate considering the ammount of treatment I had endured (good old Isle of Man NHS eh!) I went to Liverpool for my 4 monthly check, all ok, but they sent me for a PET scan a week later just to make sure. My consultant, Nick Roland, at Liverpool phoned me as soon as he had the results and, at last, put my mind at ease (4 weeks of torture)

Once again I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks for your response to my panic a few weeks ago.

Rgds:- Phil
