I think this one is for you Vinod and anyone else who knows the answer. Somewhere when doing my research on the web I read that radiotherapy uses up 4000 calories a day trying to rebuild cells. Is this true?
I mean I can believe it having lost so much weight myself. Yet also think it's to do with vastly reduced portion size and nasty tastes, so even if you eat a fattening product the quantity of said product now much reduced (i.e. half left on plate) is the factor. I also read somewhere that a woman (similar cancer)treated 11 years ago said her metabolism was permanently altered so she could eat anything - mainly desserts such as a whole cake in her case and not put on weight. Can radiotherapy alter your metabolism? Or are these facts I found on the web rubbish? |

Dear Pauline
Malnutrition can occur as a result of diminished nutrient intake, increased nutrient losses, and metabolic abnormalities caused by the tumour itself. So the food you eat may not be 'getting there' However, your diet and nutrition say researchers, """offer exciting possibilities for the innovative management of malignant disease""" See: The role of nutrition in coping with radiotherapy Best wishes Vinod :coffee: Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice.
