Hi,

I recently (about a week ago) found out that suddenly I had a lump on my hard palate. This lump is not discolored nor does it have any necessary tip on it. It looks and feels solid and not too hard or too soft. Obviously I am very concern and would like to know if this looks like mouth cancer. Thanks

Below is the URL of the image

thank you for any help you can provide me.

Yas

Hello yas01

The photo looks like the lump is possibly a torus palatinus. Please see your dentist for a proper diagnosis as it is not possible to make a diagnosis over the Internet.

Do let us know what the diagnosis is.

Best wishes

Dr. Vinod,

Thank you very much for taking the time and providing us with an idea of what could be wrong with us. Your comments are sincerely appreciated and it means a lot to me for someone like to you to dedicate some time to help us deal with our own issues. You really don't have to do it, so I really thank you for the bottom of my heart.

I will see my dentist, but I also believe that it is a torus..., well, I'm no doctor, but based on the pictures I found on the internet and the similarity as far as location (especially) and coloration, that is what I was guessing...

thank you again.

Yas

I found a lump on my hard palate just over a week ago, and had it checked by a mouth specialist. He told me it is a torus palatinus, and to leave it alone unless it became a real problem. I was so relieved it wasn't cancer.
I am 56, and for the last 5 years I have been taking calcium supplements as osteporosis is common amongst the females in my family. I am wondering if this is the cause of the bony growth, and if I should stop taking the extra calcium. Your help and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hello CLG

The torus is a developmental growth and is not related to taking calcium supplements.

Best wishes
Vinod

Hi Dr Vinod,

Just wanted to follow up...
I went to my dentist and he told me that I have had the torus for quite some time already and he even showed me some older pictures to proof his point. So I will not worry :-)

Thank you for your advise. I really appreciated it.

Yas.

I had my tooth extracted four months ago.I am so worried about this tiny lump on my hard palate. It started in the part where the dentist had injected the anesthesia. I waited for it to become smaller and im not sure if it is getting bigger also. It sometimes hurts.I have been doing a research about this and i couldnt also say it is a torus cause it just appeared right after my hard palate was injected with anesthesia. Im not able to see a doctor also as i am so out of money. What should i do with this? anybody could tell me what is this.
please i need some answers
