It may get you referred through the NHS that bit quicker. The private consultant is usually some big shot at the local hospital trust anyway.

It's best you see him privately than some wet behind the ears junior registrar in the NHS who doesn't know shit from shinola and will just fob you off for months on end!! - I am speaking from personal experience here!

cheers Tony K

Jeff,

I saw a consultant privately, and was on his NHS operating list 2 days later. They do understand that not everybody has insurance that will pay for all the treatment.

Why don't you look into HSA private health insurance. The cover we have pays for itself just on the dental and optical cover. THe assistance towards private consultation, and hospital cover are just bonuses to us.

Hi jeffers,

If you are going to take out any insurance, then it's probably berst to do so before any consultation/diagnosis.

Phone them. The HSA only pay half, up to a certain amount. Thety are quite OK with joining when you know you need treatment. I joined because I needed dental treatment. I recently increased it because I needed extra dental treatment, and claimed on the same day as I increased my premiums.
