My dad is having a hard time - we got brushed off by the oncologist - he told my dad the sores in his mouth are normal and no problem - I am NOT a doctor but I thought it looked like thrush = well fortunately we did not stop at him and got a second radiologist (first brushed him aside) to look at his mouth and he does have thrush - they gave him some medication and he is already doing better!! Big yea to that!
My question, his water intake is low (In my opinion) he takes little sips all day long but only seems to get in 3-4 glasses of water a day - it takes about an hour and a half to drink an ensure....I mentioned that maybe he should go and ask for some IV fluids - should I push this harder and make him go? thoughts? he can no longer eat any solids - and he is really really trying to drink as much as he can I am just afraid it is not enough.... thanks for any thoughts and feedback... |

Mouth thrush is fairly common (i had 2 bouts) so i am suprised your oncologist brushed this off. It is also very easy to treat if you catch it early a simple course of nystan cleared mine up both times.
As for the water 3-4 glasses although less than ideal is still a reasonable amount but i would still raise this with someone if your worried especially if he is not eating. Have you tried the high energy drinks, you can get a lot of calories in that way as well as upping the fluid intake. All the best Ian |
