Hello,
I am back again! Found your site in May of this past year. Last spring I had a painless cyst removed from my bilateral tongue/tonsill area. All went well. But since then, I have had nothing but dental problems..I am sure it is just dumb luck. Not related at all. Anyway, I now have a """new""" bump. This one started about three almost 4 weeks ago. It is on the left side , hard palate, about the size of a dime. Not quite extending into the middle of the roof of my mouth. It started out as a smaller tender soft area, near the inside gum line. Now of course it is
slightly more tender, and instead of being soft, it is a larger hard lump. It just so happend , that I was at the dentist the week I noticed it, and he said it looked like a gum problem. No antibiotics were prescribed. I am going back on tuesday for the rest of my dental work. I would like to mention it again, but he didn't seem to think it was any big deal. The area is not discolored , I don't think, but it is quite swollen. And is getting larger. But no more painful. What the heck could it be? Thank you!!

Hello Michelle, Lord it could be so many things. I will tell you this, once you start having dental work done, it could be something from a tool that they used. I would keep a eye on it or if it would make you feel better have him look again at it. Trust me if it was anything that was serious he would not have just blown you off like that....I really don't think he would...God Bless, you. If it was me,,,,I would have him look at it one more time. Better safe than sorry....Always Vicki Lynn

Thank you Viki Lynn. I think you posted to me last time back in May. What was it that you had to deal with? It seems like you know a lot about this subject. This is a nice comforting place. Thank you for your reply. Michelle

Hello Michelle

There are several causes for swellings in the palate near the gum margin area. Gum infections can cause a swelling but would get treated with scaling the pocket of the affected toooth causing it and some antibiotics. Sometimes, a swelling can arise from a 'dead ' tooth that requires root canal treatment. A dental radiograph is usually taken in conjunction with tooth vitality testing to arrive at a diagnosis. See your dentist for an explanation for the swelling. Let us know what it turns out to be.

By the way, what was that 'horn' scar you had last time, and how is the post-nasal drip now?
Best wishes

Well Hello Dr! How are you? Don't know how you find the time to post !! Pretty impressive..you are!! The """horn""" that was removed was called an (please excuse my spelling) epilithial cyst. Not sure how to spell that properly. All is fine now. The work that is being done now is root canal therapy..the trouble is that is NOT where the bump is. The root canal I have had done twice in three weeks time, and I am now going to have it finished on Monday. It seems that I need surgery to remove the nerve via the gums because the nerve is not accessible . Apparently it makes an """S""" of some sort and was difficult to remove. This tooth is on the right side, and the bump is on the left side of my mouth, and was there before I knew I needed a root canal. That is why I didn't think the two were related. Oh my..look this is turning into a novel!!! THANK YOU for your time!! Michelle

Hello Michelle--I wonder if you can tell me something about treatment for that nasal drip please? I just know that is causing most of my massive mucus problem after radiotherapy. My doctor just sort of shrugged it off.
Thanks and good luck with your mouth. It sounds a nuisance, but not too suspicious but another opinion from a different dentist might not be a bad idea.
Regards Ishbel
