Hi Doctor.

On and off now for several years even before I became a smoker I would occasionally feel what I can only describe to be a hair caught in the back of my throat. I would continuously stick my finger back there to get it out, but nothing would come. A few days later the annoyance would be gone and I would forget about it. Last night after I have had this feeling for about 5 days now.. I had my friend look into my mouth with a flash light. I can tell you that she saw and then I looked after, what looks like a second tongue coming out of my throat. It is not my tonsils and it is behind my uvula. It is attached to my tongue and resting on it. When my mouth is closed, I feel the irritation in my throat & figure that it is my uvula touching this piece of weird skin. Is this normal, must is be removed? Please help!! Laura

Hi Laura23

I'm not a doctor, nor do I play one on TV. The best suggestion I can give is to have your gp or dentist check this out. It could be nothing, but better safe than sorry. If your doctor can't figure out what's wrong, the next step would be to see either an oral surgeon or an ENT.

Sorry I couldn't give you any more conclusive information. I'm hoping for the best for you. Let us know how things turn out.

Julia

Hey

Thank you both. I do work for a GP and he is also gastro. I once had an endoscopy in 2006 which I am surprised if it is as big as I can see in the mirror why did he not see it then.. you know? I plan on having my boss take a look with the tongue depressor on monday morning.
