I hope someone can help me. A few months ago I discovered a lump inside the floor of my mouth. I could only feel it with my tongue and not with a finger. It's not visible as it's under the skin. It isn't round, but seems long and narrow. It's on the left hand side, where the gland is. My dentist couldn't feel it, but referred me to the hospital, where the consultant took a look and after a while, said he could also feel it. He referred me for a scan which I'm due to have tomorrow. I think he wants to see if there's one on the other side as he seemed to feel a slight one there, while I can't. It's 2am here and I can't sleep, I'm so worried. I'll have the scan tomorrow, but won't be told anything until I'm sent an appt with the consultant again, to discuss findings. I'm confuse though. Even though he felt the lump, he said he wasn't too concerned. I've heard of stones in the gland, but this doesn't feel like that. It's one smooth lump. I can actually move it around with my tongue. If I press on it, it goes down until it can't be felt. It doesn't protrude into the floor of the mouth above and is not painful. I was slightly worried, but am now terrified as for the past couple of months the glands in my neck have been hard and very painful, both to touch and even when I don't touch them. I'm trying to look on the bright side, but I just think that the two things together must spell cancer. I've had a couple of throat infections over the last few months and had antibiotics. My glands are still painful though. They're the size of a marble and very hard and fixed to the jawline. They haven't got any bigger though and the lump in my mouth has remained the same size for months. I have no sores in my mouth at all. Is it possible that this could be something innocent? Would the glands in my neck be this painful for so long for some other reason? Please help!

Hello Suzanna It doesn't sound like a cancer, it could be an enlarged salivary gland or cyst, etc. The MRI will help your consultant figure it out. The lump hasn't changed in size so don't fret the delay in seeing your consultant. Ask your consultant about the glands in the neck; they are probably related to your recent throat infections. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. Hi Doctor! Thankyou for remembering me. I went for a scan a few weeks ago and only had the follow up appointment a couple of day's ago. I was told that the scan was normal and that the glands looked normal. No mention was made of what the lump could be or why I have such a dry throat and burning tongue sometimes. I'm really relieved that it came back normal, but beyond that, nothing else has been explained to me. Suzanna

Hi Suzanna Good that nothing abnormal was found. But they should tell you what they think the lump was/is. Also ask your doctor about the dry mouth/throat and burning tongue. Get back to me later on this as i am really busy right now, packing for flight abroad tomorrow after work! Take care.
