I ceased my radiation therapy treatment 10 weeks ago following an operation to remove a cancerous tumor on the base of the tongue.

My situation at present is:

My tongue appears to have healed nicely. No pain just occasional dry mouth and throat.

What has developed during the last month is a painful stomach which results in sweats. Although occasionally the pain ceases, it is pretty constant.

I have seen my GP who, after a blood test which showed no abnormal results, has set me up for an ultra-sound which should occur within approx one month.

I have on occasions used ORAMORPH solution to erradicate the feelings of this pain. Since this is so successful, I am tempted often to slug away at it. I try to avoid its use because of addiction.

Question: Is it acceptable to use the Oramorph regularly during the period awaiting the ultra-sound check in a months time? Also, will the ultra-sound show a cancer if present in the stomach?

Thanking in anticipation, Fridge

Hello Fridge--Well I can't advise you what to do but just say what I did! Tucked away in my medicine chest is a half bottle of Oramorph. I took it as directed when the pain was really acute after the radiotherapy had finished. It eased the pain beautifully and I could easily have continued.
I have been tempted if I've had a sore throat with trying too hard to swallow things. But haven't taken it. I have a bit of an addictive personality. If i lke something I really go fo it and then it loses its appeal. Even the coffee-flavoured 'Ensure' boost which I loved, and had four cartons a day, hasbnow started making me sick and I so relied on it to keep my weight up.
So I*'ve virtually frgotten about the Oramorph. It's good to know it's there for a rainy day though.

Regards Ishbel
