Hello all, I am 24 years old and I have been smoking for the past 4 years. I can't say that I am a heavy drinker but I might have a glass of alcohol once every couple of weeks. Yesterday I noticed something like a small lump on my mouth. I would say that it is located on the back of my lower front teeth. If you can visualize the front lower teeth as being a small hill I would say that this lump is at the bottom of it near the base of my mouth (underneath my tongue) or at the beginning of the "midline lingual frenum" (from what I have seen on some photograps) and it is the size of the head of a match (maybe smaller). I cannot see it but I can feal it with my finger and my tongue. Furthermore I think that it is not in the surface but underneath. To be totally honest I don't know whether if its been there for long or not since I have a feeling like yesterday was the first time I put my tongue there. I am trying to calm myself down thinking that this could only be an infection because I have a tendency of bitting my fingernails. However because I am a bit of hypohondriac I wanted to share it just in case someone has something to suggest. I know that the best way of figuring out what it really is is to go to a dentist. However I am not from the UK (I've been living here for the past year - so please forgive my bad english) and I don't have any dental ensurance. In a couple of months however I will leave the UK to go back home. Any comments would be really appreciated because I am pretty worried...

Good evening Thuster, you say your English is bad because you have only lived here for one year,I've lived here for 69 years and mine is no better. You are obviously worried about your problem, which everyone will understand, so it needs attending to.The British medical system is pretty good and whilst NHS dentists seem to be as rare as hen's teeth you could always see a doctor, if he can't sort you out he will know who can and he will know how to make contact.Don't put things off until you go home ,two months is too long. The message is always the same---if you have something unusual in your mouth and it doesn't clear up in three weeks get it seen to.Good luck and please let us know how you get on.Which country are you from? Hi Thruster, I have read you message PLEASE PLEASE get in touch with the nearest ENT(Ear, Nose& Throat Hospital) and get it checked TOMORROW I did not leave it but took them a long time to tell em I had the big C and would not want you to go through anything like I had. I was 41yo then and thats bad enough. If I am not convincing read "DBs Story" in my experiences and you will be first in the queue tomorrow. Best of luck mate and do keep us posted I am sure you will be fine. Paul

Do try to get it checked out, just go to an hospital to A&E and ask to be seem, and if they think it is suspect, I am sure they will get you to the ENT dept. Good Luck

Hi Paul, you little gad about you! Do you come home to have a rest?!! Yes I get a bit worried about some of the "old faces,"( Ishbel, Brenda,Pauline etc. etc) when we dont hear from them. I have had so much Cyber support this last 9months just reading about everyones experiences & picking up tips on dealing with the many problems arising from the treatment for this awful CA. Thanks everyone.

Hi, I'm having the exact same problem, the hard lump is in the same place and theres no feeling in it. Its almost as if a little flesh rock was embedded in my gums, I can move it around and its not attached to anything but it is underneath the skin. Can one of the good doctors on this site reply to this man's post to give me an idea of risk? I too have no dental insurance.

Hello Thruster and JimSme It may not be cancer but with mouth cancers, delay is a risk that can't be afforded. So take the advice given and get your lumps seen to!
