lumps in lip, neuromas, FEAR - any advise on what type of DRGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I posted once before as I felt that something was wrong. I thought I had scar tissue in my lip and dismissed it as normal. I notice a small red discoloration. My Dr. Dentist and Oral Max. all said it was nothing. Finally the Oral Max. biopsied and area next to what I thought was scar tissue. Something doesn't seem right. I was told it was a neuroma - nerve tumor. He didn't tell me what to do, whether to leave it or not. He said to follow up with my regular doctor, which I am going to do in three days. Meanwhile I seem to be getting thickened lumps inside my lower lip. I am absolutely terrified and have no faith in the doctors that dismissed this originally. What type of doctor should I see for a second opinion? thank you for taking time to help me. Maria

Hi Maria Sorry that you're getting the runaround. Have you been to an ENT--preferably one who is familiar with head and neck cancers--about this? Please let us know how this turns out for you. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Hello Maria There are many causes for the tiny bumps present in everybody's lips and there are mostly normal structures like minor salivary glands. If your doctors aren't concerned, I would suggest that you follow their advice as there is not much that needs doing other than not continually feeling the bumps and making yourself worried needlessly. If a lump does get big enough to be visibly noticeable, return to your doctors. It might be a cyst (or mucous retention) and not necessarily a cancer. Cancers in the lip tend to present as a growing ulcer.
