Rang up Histology regarding Biopsy

Hi All,
I had a tongue biopsy a two weeks ago tomorrow and I rang up on Friday to see if they had the results. I know they cannot give them to me but was just curious because I'm supposed to get the results on Tuesday.
I spoke to somebody and they said it was still in progress?? I just seems like a long time to me to be testing the sample.
After I had the procedure done the ENT surgeon said it takes 7 to 10 days??
Has anybody else experienced a biopsy taking this long? They have taken out a sizeable chunk.
I'm just praying they've done it by Tuesday because all the waiting feels like mental torture.

It's driving me up the wall.

Thanks for reading,

Dave.

Hi David,

I don't think that is a particularly long time. We waited three weeks after Chaz's lumpectomy, but then just over a week after his tonsil biopsy. However I think we were lucky. I remember the consultant saying it could take 2 weeks and that the NHS is very short of pathologists. If they have given you an appointment on Tuesday, I would imagine that they are confident they will have the results by then. I am so sorry you have had to wait so long, it must be awful.

Thinking of you,
Cathy

Thanks Cathy...I'm sure its something that most people can relate to which is the waiting period. At first I thought it was a good thing that I hadn't heard anything but when I rang on Friday and they hadn't finished it I freaked out a bit.
It's not too long to wait now...at least they are on top of things.

Thanks,

Dave.

Hi David,

I think the waiting period is horrible, particularly as medics often don't give patients enough information about the process for reviewing and informing patients about the results. Like you, I have sometimes wondered whether the no news after a couple of weeks following one of Chaz's tests means good news. Have reached the conclusion that it is dangerous to assume and it is worth clearly outlining the process of their review and communication of results prior to testing.

I do hope all of your anxiety turns out to have been for nothing and will be thinking of you tomorrow.

Good luck,

Best wishes,
Cathy

Hi Cathy,
I don't feel too bothered about it really...although I probably will when I'm in the waiting room tomorrow.I think if it had been bad news they would have told me earlier than now.
I'll soon find out and will let you all know tomorrow. Thanks to everyone whos given me advice etc...

David.
