I started having mouth ulcers about 4 years ago when I was on Interferon treatments. During treatment I got ulcers so bad that at one time I had at least 50 or more in my mouth and I could not eat for 2 months. The ulcers eventually got somewhat better only by only having 5 at a time. My doctor has tried magic mouth wash, diflucan, dental paste, using toothpaste for dry mouth, but nothing will take it completely out. I do get what looks like canker sores on the sides of my mouth every now and then. My tongue is also very very red and sometimes has a white coating on it. I thought this was like thrush but the treatment does not help it. Recently I have started to get red spots on my tongue that looks like a rash. My tongue is also very very sensitive and sore. I had a bad fitting denture that I replace 4 yrs ago that caused a lump on my tongue and it is still there. The past couple of days my mouth has swollen to a point where I actually bite my cheeks, red ulcers with white tops are all in my mouth, and my tongue is white with bright red spots on the top and solid red on the sides! This is sooo painful and I cannot find anything that helps!! Every doctor I go to says that there is nothing they can do. I am using the magic mouth wash but this is not helping...Does anyone have any suggestions? Can this be cancer? or better yet turn into cancer? and what kind of specialty doctor should I see for this? I have seen family doc, dentist, and ENT. Thank you for any help!

Hello Antoni

I am sorry to hear about your mouth problems but I don't have the answers. Since you have already seen your family doctor, dentist and ENT, it is unlikely you have a mouth cancer. Since your oral problems appear difficult to diagnose, I would suggest that you try to see a specialist in Oral Medicine at a local dental school or university. Hopefully you will get the right help.

Best wishes
