My MRI results report-here's what it says

Hi All,
I have requested a copy of my MRI results report and here's what it says:
There is a midline solid enhancing lesion within the tongue example 2.2 which measures 2.8 x 2.2 x 3cm.The aetiology of this lesion is uncertain but it definitely requires clinical evalutation. A possible cause of midline lesions is a lingual thyroid, but this lesion is actually directly posterior to it. An abnormality arising in accessory salivary tissue is a possibility.
Incidental inflammatory polyps are seen in the maxillary antra.

I have had the iodine scan which has ruled out lingual thyroid and have the biopsy on Monday of this week.
Just wondered what peoples thoughts were on it?
Thanks for reading and hope everybody is ok!
Best Wishes,
Dave.

Hello Dave

"It requires clinical evaluation" means only the biopsy can definitely say what the lesion is. Try not to worry about what it might be for it could be anything in that report (even an ectopic lingual tonsil!)

Best wishes

Had biopsy done. Before the procedure the consultant came over to me and explained he would be doing a biopsy and wouldn't be removing the lump. However if he did need to remove the lump I would need major surgery because of where it is.When I woke from the anaesthetic (best sleep I've had for a long time)! the surgeon came over (and he was ever so nice with me)and explained that he didn't think it was anything to worry about and an appointment would be sent out in two weeks to discuss the result.
It's not too long to wait now.

Thanks again to everyone for all your help, advice.
Dave.

Thanks Dr Joshi,
Just sending a quick reply really does help and just want to add doctors like yourself deserve a medal for all the great work that you do on here, especially when you have your own patients that you care for.
This forum has really been a god send to me even if it doesn't turn out to be anything sinister it's really helped me to cope better and to gain a better understanding about oral cancer.
On my discharge letter it mentions about having another scan in two to three months which left me a little bit confused because they don't know what it is until they have the biopsy results?? I'm sure it's for a valid reason though.

Can't thank you enough.

David.
