Tiny white bump on hard palate

Hello, i am a 20 year old male, who oesn't drink, i am not a smoker, and i am very healthy. About a year ago i had a lump on the hard palate of my mouth, it was painful, but the pain slowly went away and i forgot about it. About 2 week ago i was eating crackers and it hit the lump in the same spot, it was then irritated, and was a ittle painful, now the pain seems to be gone, but i am left with a tiny tiny white lump, looks like a pimple on my hard palate. I was wondering if anyone knows what it could be, and if i should be worried and get it checked out. I am also pretty sure the lump was there for the entire year i just never noticed it.

-Aaron, thank you

Hello Aaron

It is unlikely to be a mouth cancer. You probably traumatized the torus in the midline of the palate. Have a look at Examination Technique with Normal Findings and Structures Mistaken for Disease. In the midline of the hard palate extra bone may be found (Fig. 1.25). Called a torus, it may be minimal or very enlarged. It will feel bony hard and will appear opaque on a radiograph confirming that it is composed of extra, but normal bone.

Please see your dentist for a definite diagnosis. Do let us know what he/she says.

Best wishes
