For a while now I've had a slight feeling of something stuck in the back of my mouth, seemingly at the back of the roof of my mouth. It is extremely slight, as though a hair is caught there. I seem to notice that I can occasionally feel small bumps on this portion of the roof of my mouth with my tongue, the bumps feel similar to the bumps one finds at the back of the tongue. There is no pain, discomfort, restriction or anything of the sort. I have a dentist checkup in 2 weeks so I will ask her about it then, I just thought I'd see what people here thought until then. I don't think I have mouth cancer, but I suffer from an anxiety disorder so although this seems like a silly thing to worry about, it has the potential to cause me a lot of stress. Has anyone ever heard of anything like this? Again, the closest feeling I could describe it as would be of a tiny hair stuck on the back of my tongue or roof of my mouth at the back. The feeling comes and goes, usually going for a while after food.

Hi Gabriel It doesn't sound like you have a cancer, so stop worrying. Ask your dentist to have a look and check your mouth out for you. When you feel the back of the roof of your mouth, there are a number of natural anatomical features your tongue will feel. A small hard bony lump ('little hook') found on either side at the end of the tooth bearing alveolar bone ridge is the 'pterygoid hamulus.' From my own personal experience, the hair-like sensation felt at the back of the mouth could indeed be a hair Let us know how you get on. Thanks for the reply! I don't think it is actually a hair as I have tried brushing the back of my tongue and gargling. There are no strange lumps or bumps though and I don't think I'm at high risk of mouth cancer (22, non-smoker, non-drinker, good oral hygene) so I'm not worried, it's more of an minor annoyance than anything else, I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a warning sign
