I have devoloped a strange lump on my upper left side of my gum, its about the size of a pea. It all started about 3-4 months ago, i had really bad tooth ache, i went to the dentist more than twice to make sure it was my tooth, but the dentist just kept giving me the same answer, "its just sinusitus and an infection in your maxilary nerve, it can cause a tooth ache pain". Anyways i was told to go to my GP by the dentist so she could prescribe me some anti-biotics, but as i was seeing the docotr, she was basically saying that the problem lyes with my tooth rather than my gum. So i was stuck in the middle, my GP and the dentist didnt basically know what was the matter with me. In the end i just took the pain on the chin and got on with things, eventually the pain cleard up by itself, however i was left with a horrible chest infection and flu. Then About a month ago, i devoloped a lump on my gum. The lump itself is right above the tooth that i thought i had tooth ache in, but turned out it was sinusitus. The lump seems to get bigger when i have something to eat, any other time its just a small lump. I have been considering going to the doctors for quite some time but with working long hours, i havent really made time to go, i suppose i thought it would resolve itself. But as the time has passed on and nothing seems to be happening with this lump, i have decided to do something about it now.
Any help or information is much apreciated, thank you

Ask your dentist to refer to you the hospital. I went for months being passed between pillar and post, having evry concievable anti-biotic by the truck load, and pain killer ad nauseum - before my wife demanded I was refered ...and the rest is history - it was oral cancer and I lost half my jaw. If I had been seen sooner it could have been resolved less drastically - as it was I had major sugery. Don't wait around for them - push it - it may be nothing and then you can relax - but if it is something it needs dealing with fast. I don't want to worry you - but experience has taught me not to 'suufer' thinking docs and dentists know what they are talking about - cause sometime they don't and you need an expert!

Hope that helps!
Tony

Hi Robertz.

How did it go with your gum lump? Do you still have it? Did you find out anything? Please let me know.

I am going thru the EXACT same thing. I had a horrible cold/sinusand tooth and jaw pain and now I have a hard lump above my eye tooth about the size of a pea. The lump doesn't hurt and none of my teeth or jaw hurt now, but the lump seems to be getting bigger.

I haven't gone to the Dr yet, because I also work very long wierd hours.

Hi Robertz

I agree with Anthony--this is a time when you can't take "I don't know" for an answer. Lumps, whatever their size, ARE NOT NORMAL, and pain is nature's way of telling you that there's something wrong. If this doctor can't tell you what the problem is, please go to someone who can. Get a referral to an ENT.

Stubbornness won't work. I'd convinced myself that the thing under my tongue was just a cold sore or some such and that it would clear up on its own. That was Summer 2004. In February 2005 the left side of my tongue, and the adjacent floor of my mouth, were removed and replaced with a good sized piece of my right arm. The thing under my tongue had been squamous cell carcinoma. I'm all better now, but I'd think I'd rather have the tongue I was born with, and no scars on my neck and arm, than the knowledge I've gained as a result of my cancer treatment.

Have they done anything with the problem tooth--pull, fill, anything?

Don't muck about with this, please.
