Who said it might be a cyst. Was it a doctor, a dentist or a mate?
If you are worried seek a second opinion. In the meantime try not to worry too much. You are obviously aware of the situation so if it is something nasty you at least know you will need to be taking steps to see a trained person. It's not as if you are ignoring it. As a matter of interest how long have you had the lump. I'm sure that might help Vinod to know. |

Blitz, you do keep waking me up! You are right - lip cancer is not a limp, definitely not a lower limp
----- Hello KATADAMICK (where do you people get these names from!) Lumps on lower lips are often mucous cysts or fibromas. Cancer of the lower lip usually present as an ulcer that 's been there for >3 weeks, so stop worrying. See your dentist or doctor and get an opinion and a referral to the local NHs hospital's Oral & Maxillofacial Unit. The lump will need attention. Hi Bonniemahei
Get your doctor to refer you to the Oral & Maxillofacial Dept at your local hospital for a definitive diagnosis and treatment if necessary. Meanwhile, don't press it and stop worrying. Let us know how you get on. Best wishes Vinod Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. Hi Bonnie
THe Oral and Maxillofacial people will confirm that it is a cyst (mucoceoele) or whatever and treat accordingly. Your responsibility is to get seen by them. Well done for trying to stop and cutting down on the ciggies. Not smoking is no guarantee that one can't get mouth cancer, so the number of cigarettes smoked and length of time you have smoked are not the criteria to use. Safest and wisest thing is to get any abnormality checked out if in doubt. 25% of mouth cancer cases have no history of smoking or drinking, so Self-awareness is the key to early detection.
