Hi
I'm starting my first radiotherapy in 3 hours time and trying to get as many things sorted out in advance before I won't feel like doing anything.
I don't know how long it will be before I start getting the painful mouth, but I've read on this site about Magic Mouthwash. I asked the Doctor/nurse about it, but they haven't heard of it - maybe it's only known in the US?
They said if I can tell them the exact ingredients/amounts, they will see if it can be made up in the pharmacy.
Can anyone help?

It's been a while since I used Magic Mouthwash. As I recall, the ingredients were liquid lidocaine, Mylanta, liquid benadryl and a fourth ingredient that escapes my mind right now.

I found a page that listed several formulas for Magic Mouthwash. You might want to have your doctor check out www.drotterholt.com/magicmouthwash.html.

Magic Mouth wash, I have a script for it myself, I am in the US but you should be able to get it, mine is mixed in 4 parts....Tetracycline,Benadryl,nystatin and mayllox. I dont know spesific amounts but I have to use it everyday to keep thrush away. I just completed my radiation and if I can do it so can you, I have been a whimp through this whole ordeal and reading here I see many are going through worse than I so I feel better but sorry for those having such a hard time. I hope you can get this mouth wash It helped alot , just to not feel your mouth for a while is bliss the other stuff keeps infections away, Benadryl I think was to help with swelling and maylox is just so it can be safely swallowed without stomach upset......but I just spit it out.I geuss it depends on how far down you pain goes as to wheather you need to swallow. Good Luck It will be done before you know it!
