A few days ago, I noticed a small lump in the middle/left of my hard palate. The lump is painful, but only when I push my tongue on it. The pains travel to my teeth, near it and give me toothache. I think it may be a nerve, my friends and family have looked at the lump, but they said they cant see anything - even though I can feel the lump with my tongue. Also, some of my teeth really hurt when I bite down on something. Should I be worried about this? I am a 19 year old male and im going out of my mind. I haven't been able to sleep with worrying... Should I be concerned?

Hello Wayne - Please don't panic - I know this site might put the wind up you but your best bet is to see your dentist. Why do things always flare up at weekends and holidays?!! Nothing drastic is going to happen in a few days, you are very young and there are lots of innocent explanations for what you are feeling. Don't fill your head with scarry stuff. Relax, enjoy the weekend and see your dentist next week. Regards Brenda B brendasob.blogspot.com/

Hello Wayne Brenda is right. You need to see your dentist. There are many posssible explanations; the likeliest is a tooth related infection. Hi everyone, I just thought I would update you on how I got on when I went to see the doctor. He examined the lump on my hard palate and said that it's nothing for me to worry about, and that it's a cyst. Cysts' do run in my family on my Mum's side. My Nana had cysts in her stomach, and my Mum had a cyst in her wrist, which she had removed. My Nana's cysts in her stomach were cancerous. Anyway, he said it's a cyst and there is nothing he can do about it, so I guess I'll just leave it at that. Thank You for your help everyone. I really appreciate it. Wayne

Wayne See your dentist and get a referral to your local maxillofacial unit! Hi Dr. Why would I need to get reffered to a maxillofacial unit? Do you mean to get the cyst removed? I mean, it doesn't really bother me, so I guess I could live with it...

Wayne, Hello to you, I am just in awe here that your Doctor told you that there was nothing he could do for you about the cyst. That is just plain ignorant. They can remove any cyst any where any time. If it bothers you go and have them remove it. There is very little pain involed with it. It is just the healing in the mouth area that takes so long. But there is ALWAYS something that they can DO!! I would think you need to go to a ENT. Doctor not a dentist.. Sorry Doc, just my opinion....Best of luck to you, Wayne....Always Vicki

Hello Wayne In January, you were bothered by it. Now, you aren't. Make up your mind! Sorry Dr. What I meant was that it was bothering me in January because I was very worried that it could be cancer or something. Now that I have been to the doctor and he told me that it is nothing to worry about, it wouldn't bother me. Sorry, I just thought I would make it clear what I actually meant to say.

Hi Wayne The maxillofacial surgeon at your local hospital is the expert on cysts in the mouth, not your GP. Your dentist will refer you and it would cost you nothing on the NHS to get a proper informed opinion. I know what I would do but it is your call.
