More Non Healing Sores

Oops i'm kind of new to all of this!

Ok here goes

I have a number of sores in my mouth that will not heal. They first arrived when I used to sing in a band over 4 years ago. Quite often they can cause me physical pain on a daily basis and in extreme cases have woken me up during the night. I can physically touch these sores. The glands under my mouth also constantly hurt. I have since stopped singing for the past 2 years.

I have been to my doctor twice in the past 4 years who on 2 occasions referred me to the same throat specialist. On both occasions this throat specialist looked into my throat and not very thoroughly in my mouth. Because of the physical difficulty of the locations of these sores the specialist did not see them.

If I go back to my doctor for a third time he will again refer me to the same throat specialist therefore is there anyone else in London I can go to for a check up as obviously I am concerned? I have no idea which way to turn next. If needs be Ill pay for it (although hopefully it won't cost a bomb!) as I am fed up with the pains.

So if any one can advise me which way to go that'll be cool, websites etc

Many thanks and all the best!

And now back to my night shift!

DOH!

Hi Ashley I think if you speak to Dr Joshi he will probably be able to point you in the right direction Wink . Take care and I hope it all goes well and nothing to be worried about.
Cheers Maurice

Ashley, have you been to see a dentist?

He/she might see something that the throat specialist wasn't looking for.

As Maurice indicates Dr. J will probably have better advice that any of us can give.

Hi Ashley

Since you appear to have had the problem for about 4 years now, it is unlikely to be cancer! If the sores can be physically touched, I assume they are not at the back of your throat! Ulcers normally heal within 14 days or so, but can recur and so appear to be present all the time as in the case of 'recurrent aphtous (oral) ulceration'. (Any ulcer/sore that lasts longer than 3 weeks should be seen to.)

It would be worthwhile seeing your dentist and requesting a referral to the Oral Medicine department in a teaching hospital or to the Oral & Maxillfacial Unit in a district hospital for a second opinion and investigation to confirm the diagnosis and see if there are underlying causes (several, as the condition is not always well understood!) that can be remedied.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes
Vinod
