Weird lump on back of my tongue

Hey everyone, I'm new here, I have a quick question.

A couple weeks ago after I have gotten done eating dinner, I felt as though there was still something stuck in my throat, I thought it would just work its way out so I thought nothing of it. I woke up the next morning and that feeling was still there, I checked in the mirror and stuck my tongue out as far as it can go and I noticed a white lump on the far back of my tongue, I KNOW for a fact that its the lump I'm feeling, because whenever I lick my cheek on that side I feel it, but the other side, I don't. It's so far back that I can barely stick my finger back there and touch it without my gag reflexes kicking in.

I immediately panicked but I'm also a hypochondriac so I worry too much about things, so I told myself I'd give it a couple weeks to see if it went away before I jump to conclusions.

Well the two weeks are up, here I am and the lump is still there. It doesn't hurt, it's just a bit annoying because it always feels like something is stuck on my tongue.

I hope its nothing bad, because the last thing I need for my anxiety is for it to be something bad, I don't need to stress myself out any further.

Can someone please help me? What could it be? And why did it just appear there?

I'm going to eventually go to a doctor but I just wanted to see first if anyone knew what my problem was first.

Thank you everyone for your cooperation.

I also don't smoke either, never have. I'm a social drinker. I'm also only 23 years old. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.

Hi Bangtajra

Get rid of the word "eventually." You've had this problem with your tongue for a couple of weeks already and it's not getting any better. It's clearly causing you a lot of anguish. Make an appointment AS SOON AS POSSIBLE to see either your dentist or your family doctor--they're the only ones who can diagnose or rule out whatever this might be.

The longer you wait, honestly, the more stressed out you'll feel. Don't wait. Go to the doctor now.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Julia
