I was just wondering if anyone had a recommendation for a good electric razor that can be used around the scars on my throat. I read that an electric razor is advised during Radiation Therapy, and have already experienced problems using the standard razor around the scar, The loss of feeling that resulted from the nerves being tweaked has made it difficult enough without the scar adding to it. This may not be an important question; but can't think of a better place to ask.
Thanks Mike |

I always get disappointed when I don't get an answer to a question I post. I do not shave my face so I can't recommend a razor. I use a venus razor on my legs, and it does pretty well. It's not electric though.

Agreed laurel,
I saw dragonrb's post sitting here all alone too and decided I'd go to a barber shop not far from me sometime today and ask the guys if they have anything to recommend. Hang in there dragon! Mimi |

This is not really a problem, and when put in contrast with the rest of the questions is pretty trivial. It's amazing how something as little as shaving can be effected. Please don't go to any trouble, I just figured that someone on the board had already had the same issue and might have a recommendation. I have already created a shopping list based on some of the hints and advice received.
Thanks again! Mike |

Yo dragonrb,
Too late! Had a great lunch hour visiting barber shops. The guy at the first one told me that the brand makes little difference, it's the close trim beforehand that does the trick. He suggested that I go to another shop a few blocks away that's frequented primarily by African-Americans because they have difficulty with ingrown hairs and consequently need razors for sensitive skin. Neither barber was familiar with the rads problem. The second barber said pretty nearly what the first one did - it's the prep work that counts and the beard has to be clipped very closely before the razor is used. I thought this was pretty interesting: Electric razor tips
Thank you for your service dragon; believe me, visiting good looking guys in barbershops was very easy duty! Mimi |

Thanks Mimi,
Sorry you had to go through that ordeal for me. If you need any information from the local beauty shop I will be happy to return the favor. I appreciate the information. Thanks Mike |

Mike,
I used a Panasonic Beard Trimmer. I set the adjustable comb to the lowest setting (1). Once I hit the fourth week of radiation the beard below my chin all fell out. I am just starting week six now Don |

Thanks Don,
I guess once all the hair falls out it will probably be a moot point anyway... I tried a standard Norelco and it seems to work fine. It's just a little intimidating running those razor heads over the scar. Thanks Mike |

another Idea, Do you think you'd like to just grow a beard?

Hi Dragon, only just caught up on this post. I used normal razor or let it grow if I couldn't shave. The cost of good electric ones put me off, not that I'm tight or anything
At last, 11 YEARS and still kicking it. |
