Hello, I have noticed a lump on the roof of my mouth and have become a bit concerned. I'm 25, have smoked since I was about 15, and until recently was quite a heavy drinker. The thing is I'm pretty sure the lump has come and gone for a while, although I'm not sure for how long (I only really started worrying about it today) It is on the centre of my mouth, and is sore if I apply any pressure to it. I haven't seen a doctor or anything, does this sound like it's cancerous?

Hi Alex

Please see your dentist or your GP as soon as possible. Also, quit smoking entirely.

I'm hoping for the best for you. Please let us know how everything turns out.

Julia

Hi Julia,
Doctor said it was probably nothing to be worried about. Am going back for another check in a month. Have given up smoking.
Thanks
Alex

Hello Alex

It might be "probably nothing to be worried about" but you still need a diagnosis. If it comes and goes, it might be a cyst, etc. You might wish to ask your dentist to check it out too as they are more familiar with the mouth.

Best wishes

Ok, will book an appointment with my dentist as well. Is a cyst dangerous?

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated
