hi everyone about 6 weeks ago i felt a little bump on the roof of my mouth about a quarter inch away from my teeth to the right, i have a dental mirror and its a little white spot a bit smaller than a match head, it doesnt hurt, it hasnt gone away though, it hasnt grown, it doesnt feel hard, i am a heavy smoker, i dont drink, and was 40 this year, i have had a lot of dental decay this past 6 months or so but havent been to the dentist as im worried he will have a go at the state of my teeth, he is a bit scary, i also dont want a denture, i only have four teeth up top, i would be grateful for any advise, thanks, lisa.

Hello lisa.e
It could be an enlarged minor salivary gland but one can't really tell. Smoking can cause Nicotine Stomatitis that affects these glands. It is a good idea to stop smoking. You really need to see your dentist for an opinion. Also ask for an assessment of your teeth and your treatment options. At the end of the day it is your decision, so no one can force you to have anthing done but it is best to make informed decisions about your health, dental or otherwise.
