Feeding tube?

Is there anything else you can put down the feeding tube besides the formula and the med's? Was just curious. Also they never showed me how to flush it. I am asuming that you just take water and run after your formula? Is this correct? This thing is so in my way. You would think that they would make them a bit more professional than this. It hangs from right under my left breast to my thigh!! I have tried taping it. No. I have tried to pin it once I have gotten dressed. No. No I am told that there is a button kind. However I would have to be put out to have than done. Plus I just got a call from the oncologist that put this one in, it is time to replace it. I have to do this every 3-4 months. WHAT!!!! Anyone else had this probelm that can give me some insight? Thank you, Vicki

Hi Vicki, you sound to be having real fun with your feeding tube !!

There seem to be many different types and methods of these PEG feeds. Is your feed/med administered by a pump or do you syringe down the tube?

I've been on feeding tube via pump for over 2 years now and still have the original feed tube.

Flushing, well I now use plain soda water and it seems to move sticky sediment better than plain water.

As for putting other stuff down the tube, I think you'd be better asking your medical people. Bear in mind it goes straight into your stomach. For my situation I was told not to put anything thru other than my feed.

It seems it's like everything else connected to head and neck cancers. Each one's different. Roll Eyes
