Hi,
Two months ago, I noticed a small swelling to the left of the midline of the roof of my mouth. I went to the doctors and dentist several times before an impacted canine tooth was diagnosed. At this point I was feeling, quite unwell, with swollen glands. Once the tooth was removed, my consultant said the roof of the mouth was chronically infected and the bone was peeling away. I was then given a strong course of Anti-biotics. A month on and the same small lump is still apparent and fluctuates, especially with the cold and warmth?? My consultants refuses to take me seriously. I am wondering if this slight swelliing is a result of the infection and is repairing or indeed is something more sinister, although X-rays are showing nothing and the lump/swelling has not grown at all...please help, I'm going crazy here! Sorry to post again so soon, But I forgot to mention that my surgeon partially severed the piece of skin under the tongue during the op. 6 weeks on and this is still sore, but probably because I keep investigating the small bump with my tongue, have I strained this also!!

Hi Chance
The best advice I can give you is to find a doctor who will take you seriously, and don't stop until you find one who does. Please let us know how you get on. Julia Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos! |

Hello Chance09 The removal of the impacted canine tooth would leave a defect in the bone and the overlying tissue could feel soft and fluctuant. I suggest that you follow your surgeon's advice (you have been given antibiotics). It does take time to heal. If it doesn't get better or gets worse, see you surgeon again or get a second opinion. Thank you for yur swift reply!!
I have now asked a consultant to take a closer look at an X-ray, I was previously told was fine. He has E-mailed me today to say, it looks like there is a cystic lesion adjacent to the removal site. I have another appointment with him in a week, but now I'm terrified! |

Dont trust the doctors when they tell u a scan is fine, a biopsy is the only way to know. My mom had an MRI, and other scans, and was told they were all clear. This was while she had cancer growing in her tonsil and spreading to her tongue!

Demand to be referred to your hospital. I experienced something similar. You need a biospy.
