I am 27 years old and for the past 5 days i have been getting quite a few pains, i have had a pain in my tongue and at the back of my tongue, also i am getting pain and discomfort at the back of my mouth, throat and also near my ears.

I stopped smoking 6 years ago and very rarely drink.

Sometimes it is a little difficult to chew or swallow and hurts when i talk.

I don't have a dentist as i haven't managed to register with one for a few years.

I am really hoping that this is not something serious but what do you think?

Hello southyorkshireguy

Muscle spasms (masticatory myofascial pains) are a common cause of such pains. Read the general advice on avoiding this cause here. If it still bothers you, see your doctor for a diagnosis or appropriate referral to a specialist. Hope that helps. Let us know how you get on.

Best wishes
Vinod Coffee

Thank you for your reply doctor, So in your opinion it could be muscle spasms?

I have had a look around in my mouth and i cannot see any red or white patches or lumps and don't think i have any ulcers, apart from the pain if this was something like mouth cancer then would i have a few other symptoms and a few other signs in my mouth?

Thank you.

Hi Southyorkshireguy

Please do as Dr Joshi says. Your symptoms sound very similar to mine--especially the ear pain. The sooner you see a doctor, the better off you'll be.

Let us know how this turns out.

I am going to go and see a doctor this week but i have no idea what to say to them, What do i say to make sure that my doctor examines my mouth and throat?

As i said above i don't have a dentist so i can only see my doctor about this problem.
