Husband Chewing Tobacco

Tonight I received an email from a worried wife Help
quote:
My husband grew up in Kentucky; he chewed tobacco most of his young life. We recently got married and he's only 26. He's taken up smoking, to replace the chewing habit, but I still think it's gross. The chewing tobacco badly discolored his teeth (mostly bottom). He told me a week ago after his dentist apptmt. that he hadn't been in 13 years! (Due to the fact that his family didn't have much money growing up.) Now it's been established that he needs $1500 in dental work done, including the pulling up 2 teeth. I'm writing because I would like him to see pictures of people with their jaws off (post operation), pics that show how EVEN WORSE tobacco chewers' teeth can get. He keep telling me that he doesn't wanna smoke; he'd much rather chew.

I love him more than anything, and don't want to EVER see anything (operations, death, etc) happen to him. Could you please point me in the right direction of stories, articles, and especially pictures that I could present to him regarding the above issues?
Chewing or smoking tobacco is not a healthy thing to do. It has been related to an increased incidence of mouth cancers. Please read the BBC article on chewing tobacco and mouth cancer and other information in the section PATIENT'S GUIDE > TOBACCO RISKS

See also the link given there to: "Mouth cancer epidemic on the way" about Indian doctors reporting a rise in pre-cancerous lesions in the mouth - which they're convinced are caused by chewing tobacco.

The first link : Oral Cancer: Prevention and Detection in the section PATIENT'S GUIDE > PREVENTION <br />has several pictures of mouth cancers in the Clinical Presentation section. They may help stop dipping snuff. Read the patient stories, too. Do also become aware of what to look out for.

See this advice about stopping chewing tobacco

Life is about making choices, for ourselves and others. I hope the information at the website helps you make an informed decision.

Best wishes to you both.
